October 3, 1961

On this day the Dick van Dyke Show premiered, it was a sitcom starring Dick van Dyke. Episodes of the show such as "Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth" and "It May Look Like a Walnut" were ranked #8 and #15 respectively on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. The success of the show warrants that it was a good thing to have happened, considering the people it entertained. It didn't have much worldwide or personal influence, but presumably many people found the show humorous and entertaining so it could have national significance. I appreciate this event because, being human, I appreciate comedy. Most successful shows have contributed to society in some way, so I think that the premiere of this show was a positive event.
