...

Assuming the role of a silent protagonist would make life so much easier. All you have to do is stand there, emotionless, and watch everyone else act out their lives around you. They don't even care that you're a vegetable! They just assume you're the strong, silent type and move on with things. That's why I would choose to be Gordon Freeman from Valve's Half-Life series of games. He's a theoretical physicist who doesn't do much theorizing at all. Instead he stands there for a few minutes while people explain to him where he needs to go and what he should shoot next. He's a shoot-first ask-questions-later kind of guy, and with his HEV suit he's got one of the easiest jobs on the planet. Just run and shoot some stuff. The need for human interaction goes right out the window. And I'm not saying that's a good thing, not talking to people; but if I were Gordon Freeman, that wouldn't matter to me at all. I've lived my entire life not talking to people, and that's fine by me. I think I'll just go research the hell out of that space creature over there. With a crowbar. And a shotgun.
