The Croatian boy who loves LOVES math

Many teachers choose to put students in alphabetical order at the beginning of the year and especially freshman year. Because of this, Michael and I always end up sitting next to each other and so I feel like I’ve known him for a long time. At first, you may think Rukavina is a very unique name and not many people would have the last name. But you are wrong. He has a ton of cousins in Lexington and you may hear about one working at Raising Cane’s, a doctor at the hospital, etc.

First and foremost, Michael is a very hardworking individual. He goes to swim practice around 5:00 in the morning before school starts and even after school too. He was on the state relay team and invited to visit or train (don’t remember which) at the USA Olympic Swim Team headquarters in Colorado freshman year. (His hair gets very blonde from swimming so much too.)

Michael loves math. He really really loves math. He’s in AP Calculus 2 and loves to solve math equations and what not for fun. I thought he was exaggerating at first but nope. This kid loves math.

And finally, Michael is a great listener. Over the past 3 years, he’s listened to a ton of random things that just popped into my mind, rants, and anything else worth talking about. I’m a talkative person to begin with but with Michael I am comfortable talking about my bad days and issues I may be having which I normally do not do. He’s very trustworthy and the best seat partner ever. Thanks for everything Michael!
