My Name Is Barrett

Hello. My name is Barrett Block. And for the better, or worse, I am pretty sure all of you guys know me.

I stand around five-foot and eight-inches tall, weigh 160 pounds, that is about 73 kilos, or 11.5 stone. I have brown hair, bronzed skin, and was last seen wearing a pink polo and white shorts. Is it just me, or does this paragraph sound like a police report?

Here at Henry Clay I am Captain of the finest Academic-Team ever assembled on Earth. Naturally, as an Academic-Team member, I have a love for things most kids hate. Like textbooks, learning, hard-work, trivia-game shows, waking up early on Saturday mornings, calculators, math, reading books whose authors are old-dead-white-men, and the sounds of buzzers. For me, Academic-Team is a sport. It is heart-racing, adrenaline-pumping glory. I love Academic-Team and all the people on it-yes, even Carson Dooley.

Besides reading, learning, and straight-being-a-boss with Academic-Team, I love going to the lake. To me, Herrington Lake is heaven. There I am at home and have no worries. At the lake I water-ski. I like water-skiing as much as I like Academic-Team (and as you can tell, that is a lot). I slalom and trick-ski and am indisputably the best skiier on the lake. For me, skiing is a reflection of my life. To ski well demands the union of mind and body, of sanity and health. To ski well, one must focus on nothing but the marriage of one's body with one's ski-not on one's worries or problems. If one finds balance on the water, it is only because one has first found balance on land. In that sense, skiing is my medicine, and my meditation. This Friday, the end of one tough week, and an even tougher month, I skiied better than I ever have. That fact leads me to say with confidence this Sunday night that I have once again found myself and all the happiness the world has to offer- just in time for me to tell you a bit about me.

Lastly, in order to meet the requirements of this assignment, I have to include a picture and a link to a web-site. I love www.wikipedia.org. And I have learned a lot from it. In my humble opinion, I think it is reliable and should be accepted as a viable source in scholarly work. As I write this sentence I do not know what I should make my picture. I would post a picture of myself, but that would be narcissistic (which everyone knows I am not). So, I will post a picture of Herrington Lake (right)- my Shangri-La. Honestly, I have learned more on its waters than I have on thousands of wikipedia pages.

So, it is a pleasure to meet you.

I hope it was the same for you.
