I am what is called a “craddle Catholic.” This, along with my fiercely religious parents, means my entire life I have gone to church every Sunday and all the Holy Days of Obligation. Because of this, you may think I am already biased into what I believe; you are probably right, but because I am so passionate about my faith, I am not changing. There is an absolute good, His name is Jesus Christ. He sets our morals for us at the time of our creation and gave us the Ten Commandments. Obviously if I believe He is the absolute good, then I believe there is an absolute bad, known as Satan. This may sound too religious and ignorant to some but this is what I have been taught, and what I really do believe.
What I have mentioned above may be argued against by stating that they are not here on earth (or even exist in some people's minds) and the question is focused on human kind. To this I answer that I really do not think people are absolutely evil or absolutely good, they pick what they are based on if they take Satan’s influence or God’s. In the scriptures it is taught that NO ONE is perfect except for God himself, this is shown precisely when even the best people make mistakes such as lying or disrespecting someone. However, no one can really be an all-around bad person, if they love or care for something, which it seems everyone does, then they are obviously not entirely bad. A feeling of guilt usually comes over most when they do something wrong which proves a conscience is present, something thought of as good.
The serial killers out there that don’t care and have no guilt after committing a crime are not necessarily entirely bad either, they have something seriously wrong with them, usually found to be schizophrenic or the like. They justify what they are doing, just as every one else on earth does. Thus leaving good vs. evil to be “held in the eye of the beholder.” This creates that grey area; to one what they are doing is perfectly acceptable (for instance, cheating on quiz because you don’t want your friend to fail), but to the other it is absolutely appalling (for instance, the one who actually studied and deserves that A+). To us, all this is obviously subjective, but in reality it all deals with the forces much greater than we, the forces I believe to be God and Satan.
If you don’t believe in God then just look at the history of literature and myths. The Torah, the Bible, the Quran, all religious texts concerning what is good and what is not; The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and (sadly) even Twilight, all fictional texts that have the good-v-bad battle within their texts. If there truly are no absolutes, then why has it been written about for so long? We have always heard “good will prevail” and that is exactly what we are striving for, we need that absolute good to overcome that absolute bad, but with this gray area, I don’t know if that can ever really happen, there will always be good and there will always be bad.

These lyrics in "Breathin' To Death" by Lecrae kind of some up what I was trying to get across. "I know I tell lies/ I know I do dirt/ Apart from you I'm nothing but you can give me worth/ I don't know if I know you/ But still I know I should/ I know the days are evil and only you are Good"
