I actually know plenty about computers, the title is just a non-sequitur
How would your life have been different if you'd grown up 20 years earlier? How would you interact with others? Do you think your relationships then would differ from your present relationships? Which time period would you prefer and why?
With technology today, and in particular with the advent of social networking, it's a lot easier to simply interact with people. You no longer have to see somebody in person, or call them on the home phone and have a full, engrossed conversation with them. Instead you can pick up your phone, type out a sentence(even a single word), and continue with whatever else you were doing. This is now considered "conversation," and it's something we take for granted today.
As for myself, it's not like I'm bothered by it or anything; I'm used to it. When someone responds to my text with a single word, I'm not deeply insulted, though it can get annoying. It's simply the price we pay for convenience. Going from this convenience to a time when technology wasn't as advanced or instantaneous would certainly be difficult though. Not having lived in the time period would make relationships with friends harder- casual conversations while going about your day become impossible, instead requiring a greater effort from both sides.
As for the time period I would choose to live in, I may as well go all-out Colonial. I would return home each day and trespass into my father's room to plunder his snuffbox. Then I may travel the 1.7 miles to reach my friend Bartholomew's house. We would make jest of the current socioeconomic trends of the day, then tip our hats to each other, as I would need to leave before 5- you see, at sundown the wolves come out...
