One small step that made the Commies cry

In 1969 when the United States was in the middle of a cold war against the Soviet Union, a war which was very unsettling to our nation as a whole, Apollo 11 successfully put the first people on the moon. Once there, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted the American flag and declared America to be the winner of the race to the moon against the Communists. The picture shows Armstrong and Aldrin by the flag on the surface of the moon.

This event was considered a major victory for the United States, as it gave us hope that we could overcome the Communists, both in this race to the moon and in the war. But even from a non patriotic perspective, the lunar landing changed our world's opinion of what we, as people, could accomplish.
