This picture shows Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. giving his "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28, 1963 in D. C. at the Lincoln memorial. MLK led a large part of the civil rights movement, trying to gain equality for African-Americans and their white counterparts. In the photograph, people are probably inspired and moved by the King's words. In eighth grade I memorized the speech and found that it evoked a deep emotional response for me. Dr. King uses references to the Bible, Declaration of Independence, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Constitution. This speech marked a major milestone in the civil rights movement, and moved many people, of every race.
