They disguise it, hypnotize it.

After the death of the popular supporter of political liberalization, Hu Yaobang, in August 1989, a series of protests took place across China. The protesters used non-violent methods of protest to send a message to the government of China that they wanted social and economic reform so that they would be treated more fairly. On June 4, the People's Liberation Army sent out troops to clear the area. They use live fire on the more than 100,000 people that had gathered in Tiananmen Square for the funeral of Hu Yaobang. There were not many casualties, but all eyes were watching China with condemnation one that day.

The picture depicts one man that was brave enough to stand up to four tanks in Tiananmen Square and put himself directly in front of the tanks gun in the name of the freedom that he wanted for his country. The picture is now famous, because it not only showed first hand the situation in China, but also it gave people a glimpse at true bravery and extreme bad-assery.
