I cannot imagine my life without my iPhone or iPod. They have become so convenient and normal to my life that sometimes there’s no need for me to use the computer unless I need to write something for a class. Although I listen to a variety of genres, I am very picky when it comes to music I fall asleep to. I have my iPod set to play for 15 minutes on a playlist then automatically turn off, which by that time I will be fast asleep. My playlist for going to sleep/movie score is the following:
1. Suite from Forrest Gump composed by Alan Silvestri: This is from the movie Forrest Gump and one of my favorite movie scores of all time. I absolutely love the simple melody played by the piano as well as the more dramatic parts. The suite covers parts of the whole movie and in 11 minutes, all of the emotional drama from heartbreak to happiness can be felt.
2. Benjamin and Daisy composed by Alexandre Desplat: This is from the movie the Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Alexandre Desplat is my favorite composer today. Once again, this song is mainly just the piano and is so relaxing yet mysterious.
3. Victoria and Albert composed by Ilan Eshkeri: This is from the movie The Young Victoria which is my favorite historical movie. I especially like this song because it really embodies the concept of the movie so well.
4. West Wing composed by Alan Mencken: This is from the movie Beauty and the Beast my favorite Disney movie. I love how there’s the recognizable parts but also instrumental and not so sing-song-y to the point where it’s actually harder to fall asleep.
5. Married Life composed by Michael Giacchino: This is from the movie Up and probably the cutest Pixar movie as well as the Academy Award winner for Best Score last year. The song is only 3 minutes but in that short period of time, it covers the whole marriage of Carol and his wife. All the fun times they had as well as the sad moments in his life when she passed away.
All of these songs don’t have lyrics which is part of the reason why I like to listen to it before going to bed since I won’t try and understand the words. But they are all relaxing and definitely worth listening, even they do make the listener sleepy.
