What's Wrong With Zombie Movies

Zombie movies almost always include characters that are complete idiots, crazy dramatizations of what could happen, and more often than not include a lot of bad ideas. There's a much better way to handle things than what common Hollywood films portray.

  • First of all you need to know if you're dealing with comparatively "fast," sprinting zombies, or the classic "slow," shuffling zombies. Each requires you to adopt a different strategy for survival, with the former making things a lot harder.
  • Get big, armored cars, like buses, for transport. Anything you can find that runs on ordinary gas, makes the least noise possible, and won't tip over easily will do, but your 4-door sedan isn't going to be very safe when you're completely surrounded by the undead.
  • Don't use loud weapons, or do anything else that makes noise for that matter. Any commotion you cause will lead a pack of zombies straight towards you, so minimize sound wherever possible. That means no chainsaws, as fun as you think they might be. Use of large guns should be minimized as well, though kept close in case of an emergency.
  • No serrated blades. Anything with jagged edges could get stuck in a zombie, and if that's your only weapon, you're going to be out of luck. Sharp, clean-edged blades that don't require much maintenance (nothing like katanas that need a lot of upkeep to stay sharp) are preferred. Those knives they always advertise on TV as being impossible to dull sound good in this situation (for once).
  • Meet with whoever you can in a designated "safe-zone". A common mistake in movies is that people always attempt to go find their loved-ones first thing and become zombie chow in the process. Another bad but oft-seen move is going straight to the downtown area, THE MOST HEAVILY POPULATED PLACE, guaranteed to be absolutely swarming. Stick with a remote location, try to get as many still-alive people you can together, and only head into town to forage for supplies. Everybody else will run straight for the local grocery and probably die.
This is just in the short-term. Long-term goals will require you to either turn to a simple, nomadic life of zombie-killing, or relocate to a self-sustaining island with your friends/fellow survivors, free from zombies. There you will create a new world order, and hopefully reinvent electricity so you don't go back 500 years technologically.
