I am from a musical home. We all started taking lessons on SOMETHING before kindergarten and had added another instrument to the resume by the end elementary school, my parents are opera singers, and we sing happy birthday in at LEAST three part harmony. We listen to Broadway on Sirius Radio, we belt the songs we do know and when the radio is on we start singing regardless of if we know the lyrics or not. I guess you could say that I am live musically spoiled. So when I learned about autotuning I just did not understand and could not -still can't- understand the point of digitally enhanced music. If you can't sing live then DON'T do it professionally. Because then people are going to want you to sing live and then when you can't it's going to be freakishly disappointing. I know the feeling. so when I come across Glee at first I'm excited. REAL LIFE MUSICAL what musical person doesn't want that?? But then I heard the tell-tale sign of autotuning from that noise of the attempt to slide, but it goes straight to the note and you hear that digital blip thing as well as the blend of the voices sounding perfectly together. I was instantly disinterested. And the fact of the matter is that I KNOW that they can sing live Some where on Broadway. WHY DO THEY AUTOTUNE THEN!? Bad acting I could get over, but the autotuning drives me batty. But for whatever reason I continue to watch.
