I really hate alcohol. It has caused such disdain for me in my seventeen years of life. It has deteriorated the relationship I have with my parents, siblings, cousins. After 5:30, I intentionally avoid my parents, lest I receive a barrage of thoughtless remarks and other manifestations of slurred speech.
I suppose I just don't understand it. I don't get why it is customary to consume alcohol (or other harmful drugs, for that matter) at social occasions. There are certainly plenty of healthier, more practical alternatives that can serve as a diversion from the problems in one's life.
Despite my intense hatred for the substance, alcohol should definitely remain legal. Just look at the the effect of the prohibition instituted in the United States in 1919. Citizens were outraged, workers were unemployed, and the economy was crippled. And although I hate to admit it, alcohol can be consumed well. It does effectively stifle one's emotions, and with enough responsibility, it can be harmless.
