war (OK! Fine! I'll conform!)

Even though war is a vile and gruesome part of life, it's a part of life that comes with being human. Humans are animals by nature and animals will kill one another for survival and for status within the community. Humans are the same. While survival is no longer a necessary part of violence, respect, greed, and selfishness are strong motivators for war. Instinctually, humans will want more food, money, respect among their peers, and power over others and the quickest way to obtain this is by killing other people for food, land, or money and making people fear you so that they respect you. This works on all levels of communities whether it be between nations, between cities, or between gangs of people.
If we were to use war and violence as only a defensive measure to keep people from stealing our food, freedom, and money then war would not only reduce, but become more justifiable. It would be safer and better to use war like a Mexican standoff; I won't shoot you unless you shoot me, and you won't shoot me unless I shoot you, ergo if neither of us shoots then no one dies.
