Lets tie in some US history.

The war of 1812 was going on. On October 5, 1813, Americans dealt a blow to the British and Indian forces at the battle of Thames. This was one of the most important battles for America because it simultaneously established control over the Northwestern Frontier and dismantled the Indian alliance created by Tecumseh.
Since we are Americans we can view this as a good thing, since it was one of the major victories which led to the end of the war. The end of this war as essentially a draw was very important for America as a nation, because it established us as a powerful nation. If we had lost this battle, it is very likely that America would have been wiped out.
