October 2, 1967

On this day in history, Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American to be sworn in as a justice of the United States Supreme Court. This was a great event in history since he was the first non-Caucasian justice and set a precedent for another race holding such a position. This had an influence on the nation at the time because it was the year before the Civil Rights Movement ended. This momentous event showed that African-Americans are not inferior to Caucasians and can get a job of great respect. I don’t think it necessarily effected Lexington but to me, it opened a lot opportunities for different races to make it big in America. I do appreciate the acceptance of all races in the nation that this event may have been a factor of.
