October 8th

On this day in 2001, George Bush established the department of Homeland Security in result of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Homeland security became a very important department in the age of terrorism. George Bush showed his determination in wanting to make sure no other act of terrorism on the scale of September 11th would happen again. So began the ritual of taking off our shoes before we got on planes and more recently, being subjected to full body screenings. The United States was the first country to create such a department that looked to protect its borders from attack. Homeland Security was only one result of the most significant day in American history in my lifetime at this point.
