October 9, 2006
On October 9, 2006, North Korea detonated its first nuclear weapon ever. The impact of Korea's action was huge in accordance to the United States, especially since one day later, North Korea announced that they could possibly launch a nuclear missle at our country. The news that Korea had done so first established them as a threat to the United States. Had I been aware of this at the time, I would have been absolutely terrified. Especially knowing the mentality of Kim Jong Ill and his unpredictability, it is safe to say that on that day, most American lives were put on the line. I, myself, loathe the fact that I could have been killed on any day of October 2006, as unlikely it was. Another enemy of the United States was established, and especially to me, since I was living that time out, that's a pretty big deal.
