October 2, 1789

This day George Washington sent the proposed Constitutional Amendments also knows as the Bill of Rights to the states in order for them to be ratified. This was a very important date to the history of the United States. For the Bill of Rights to be put to action they had to have been ratified by the states and because they were ratified, we are now about to enjoy those liberties and freedoms. Through these amendments the citizens of the United States are guaranteed certain rights that cannot be taken away by the government. This makes sure that the central government never infringes of the rights of the people. It was because these amendments were sent by Washington this day and ratified by at least three fourth of the states that it went into effect of December 15, 1791, symbolizing freedom in the United States of America
